Bespoke Solid Oak Staircase – Farnham, Surrey
At Timber Technology, we believe a staircase should be far more than just a way of moving between floors, it should be a striking architectural feature that elevates your home’s character and style. This bespoke staircase, designed and handcrafted for our customer in Farnham, perfectly demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship can be combined with modern design to create a truly exceptional centrepiece.
Customer brief
Our customer wanted a contemporary staircase that would flood the entrance hall with natural light while incorporating premium materials and subtle lighting to create a luxurious, minimalist finish. Every detail was carefully considered to ensure the staircase complemented the modern interior of the property.
Handcrafted from solid European white oak
The staircase was expertly manufactured from solid European White Oak, selected for its beautiful natural grain, strength and durability. Each component was precision crafted in our workshop in Church Crookham before being installed by our experienced team.
The warm tones of the oak provide a timeless appearance while offering the durability required for everyday family life.
Frameless toughened glass balustrade
To maximise light throughout the space, we installed a frameless toughened glass balustrade using hidden glass bolts for a clean, floating appearance. The concealed fixings ensure the focus remains on the natural beauty of the oak and the uninterrupted glass panels.
The result is a contemporary staircase that feels open, spacious and elegant.
Integrated LED lighting
A standout feature of this staircase is the bespoke lighting design.
We incorporated:
COB LED lighting beneath each tread where possible, creating a seamless line of illumination.
Edge-lit glass balustrades that produce a subtle ambient glow throughout the staircase.
Discreet lighting details that enhance both safety and atmosphere without distracting from the overall design. The integrated lighting transforms the staircase during the evening, creating a luxurious feature that becomes the focal point of the home.
Shadow gap newel posts
To achieve a refined, minimalist aesthetic, the staircase features shadow gap newel posts, providing crisp architectural detailing and clean contemporary lines. Combined with the hidden glass fixings and edge-lit glass, this creates a sophisticated floating effect that perfectly complements modern interiors.
