BESPOKE BBQ HUTCH – FLEET, HAMPSHIRE
OUR CUSTOMER BRIEF
Our customer based in Fleet, Hampshire approached us with a vision of creating a bespoke BBQ hutch, giving them the ability to barbecue all year round.
They wanted a functional, yet stylish addition to their garden that would serve as the perfect spot for outdoor cooking and entertaining guests.
They also emphasised the need for a durable structure that could endure various weather conditions whilst providing cover and maintaining its visual appeal.
Project Build and Materials
Our client’s request comprised of three main components:
Design: To create a bespoke BBQ hutch that has a door canopy and is both practical and visually appealing.
Manufacture: To ensure the structure is built with high-quality materials that can endure the outdoor environment. Our customer specifically requested the hutch to be crafted from charred timber using the traditional Japanese wood preservation method known as Shou Sugi Ban. Additionally, they wanted to include electrical outlets, spotlights, ventilation, and a fold-up mechanism.
Installation: The hutch be manufactured and built off site with installation taking no longer than two days, to ensure minimum disruption.
the design
The BBQ hutch was designed with a front that opens into an overhead canopy, offering shade and protection while cooking. It was also equipped with four spotlights to ensure adequate lighting, particularly in the evening.
Additionally, we also added a double power socket providing electrical convenience, and an extractor fan to efficiently manage smoke and odours.
To ensure safety, a fuse board was included, along with a light switch for easy lighting control. This combination of practical and stylish features creates a highly adaptable and effective outdoor cooking area.
the manufacture
Once the CAD drawings were signed off by the customer, our team went to work on the construction of the BBQ hutch.
The hutch was constructed using charred timber through the Shou Sugi Ban technique, a traditional Japanese method that involves charring the wood’s surface. This process protects structures from fire, pests and various weather conditions. It also enhances the wood’s resistance to sunlight and moisture, while providing a striking black finish and a beautiful texture.
Our skilled carpenters crafted each component, paying close attention to every detail.
Once all elements were constructed, the BBQ Hutch was assembled in our workshop and thoroughly checked for any issues. Our team made sure that the gas assisted door canopy worked with ease. We find this method minimises error and is less disturbing to our clients when installing.
installation
The installation process took two days to complete. The BBQ hutch was meticulously finished. The design not only fulfilled the need for practical storage but also added to the overall character of their outdoor area.
