Our customer in Reading wanted a beautifully integrated alcove unit to complement their living space, along with a functional yet stylish desk that blended with the room’s natural features.

The focus was on traditional craftsmanship, timeless design elements, and materials that reflected the character of the home.

Alcove Unit design & installation

We designed and installed a bespoke alcove unit, custom-built to fit the space perfectly and embody a timeless design.

Key Features:

Colour: Farrow & Ball Strong White – a classic neutral tone that brings lightness to the room.

Door Style: Traditional Shaker – timeless, elegant, and perfectly suited to the home’s interior style.

Handles: Off black, matt finish – a subtle yet striking contrast against the pale cabinetry.

Cabinet Design: Shaker style cabinets fitted with adjustable glass panels, allowing for flexible display or concealed storage.

Internal Finish: Oak veneer board, custom colour matched to the existing oak beam – ensuring seamless visual continuity.

Lighting: Discreet hidden strip lighting creates a warm atmosphere.

Bespoke desk creation

In addition to the alcove unit, we created a fully bespoke desk that reflects the same level of detail and quality.

Desk Features:

Material: Oak veneer with a smooth grain finish.

Finish: Oiled using Osmo Clear Satin for a natural yet protected surface.

Handles: Off-black, matt finish – consistent with the alcove unit for design harmony.

Door Style: Smooth, flat panel oak – clean and modern, ideal for a working environment.

Internal board: Oak veneer to match the desk’s surface and surrounding décor.

Outcome

The completed installation adds both functional and flexible storage and workspace to the home. The combination of traditional shaker design, premium oak veneer, and carefully selected finishes creates a sophisticated yet warm atmosphere that complements the character of the property.
