5 things to consider before renovating your home

Renovating a home is an exciting journey, whether you’re updating a single room or taking on a full scale transformation.

At Timber Technology, we have worked with many homeowners to bring their visions to life through expert joinery and carpentry.

Before you start tearing down walls or drawing up plans, here are five essential things to know.

5 things to consider before renovating your home, Timber Technology

1. Have a clear vision

A successful renovation begins with a clear understanding of your goals. Are you looking to create more space, improve energy efficiency, or modernise your home’s appearance? Setting your priorities will help shape the design and keep your plans aligned throughout the project.

Tip: Consult a professional early. Our team can help assess what’s structurally possible and offer expert advice on bespoke timber features and finishes that match your vision.

2. Set a realistic budget

Renovation costs can add up quickly, especially when unforeseen issues arise. Establish a practical budget that covers all expected expenses and be sure to include a contingency fund (typically 10–20%) for surprises along the way.

3. Understand the timeline

Renovations often take longer than anticipated. Planning your timeline with flexibility is key, especially if you’re coordinating trades, ordering custom joinery, or waiting on permits and inspections.

At Timber Technology, we carefully plan each phase of your renovation, providing clear, realistic timelines to keep your project on track without compromising on craftsmanship or quality.

5. It will get messy but it’s worth it

Dust, noise, delays, and disruption are part of the renovation process. Being mentally prepared for some chaos will help you stay positive and focused on the outcome.

Remember, the mess is temporary, but the results can transform your home for a lifetime. When you invest in quality materials and expert craftsmanship, the final product is always worth the wait.
